Overall, I liked the episode and while we don't take huge steps forward in the overall plot, seeds of what's to come are evident (and some not so evident).

Despite several juicy plot points-exorcism! clandestine makeouts! rescue missions!-Outlander's third episode was the first to only negligibly drive the overall narrative forward.

There's a lot of set-up in the beginning chapters of Outlander, so this addition to the plot was a good tool to give this episode a beginning, middle and end.

The amount of time spent with characters like Colum, Jamie, and even Angus means they already feel like friends - it serves to make you more invested in the story and what Claire will do next.
