Seven months after the arrival of the 2nd Mass and the alien race, the Volm, the resistance continues to fight, and win, against the alien invaders following alliances with the Volm and rebel Skitters. Tom is now Charleston';;;s leader, and his alliance with a new alien race gains them their first real advantage in the war against the invading Espheni. Tom leads his comrades closer to executing their boldest and riskiest mission yet, he must face down new alien threats, including some that imperil his own family.

Rmains solid entertainment, thanks to shock deaths, well-mounted action and "human moments" which fall just the right side of the touching/sickbag-required divide
