Season 10 is complemented by new events that begin when tensions suddenly increase. Now, heroes are struggling to hold onto the concept of civilization they are always looking for. Over time, the assets of Alpha and Beta were revealed, as Alpha tries to tighten Lydia in order to do what he wants.

Carol has a mini-meltdown in the forest and Daryl confronts her... It is a sweet, tender moment. I don't really ship them, but it makes a hell of a lot more sense than trying to force a Daryl/Connie romance to happen.

In some respects, it worked. In others, it felt like the producers forgot about a lot of storylines that should have gotten resolved, or at the very least, gotten some more steam to keep fans pondering as they await the next batch of episodes.

"The World Before" marks a perfectly tolerable denouement for what has been a radically inconsistent collection of episodes for season 10 so far. Events are now primed for what I hope is a punchier and more satisfying latter half.

As much as I like The Walking Dead story building and the character development, this silent warfare is slow. The Whisperers are definitely in control and it's frustrating. It's time for Team Family to get a win.

Any concerns about an unresolved cliffhanger for the Dante/Sid showdown are dispelled right away in what turns out to be a tense, satisfying midseason finale.

Heroes abandoned their morality, characters were so focused on killing bad guys they became idiots, and some supremely ludicrous things happened, all to set up a "shocking" ending that was completely unearned.

What a nasty, lovely cliffhanger for this mid-season finale! Better than waiting around to see Negan kill people like a few seasons ago.

Not a bad episode, but as a midseason finale, it could've been better and given us more reason to care about everything that's happening and to look forward to the eventual war against the Whisperers.

For the most part, "The World Before" is a perfectly solid "Walking Dead" entry. It successfully juggles several storylines without feeling as inconsequential as "Bonds," probably because some stories are just beginning while others are winding down.
