It’s summertime in Chicago, and the Gallaghers are cooking up fresh ways to the same tricks. When Frank Gallagher is not at the bar spending what little money the family has, he is stirring up trouble. But he is not the only one who keeps things interesting. Fiona is thrown for a loop when Steve returns from Rio with a Brazilian wife. Karen and Sheila tussle over Karens new husband Jody, a good-hearted but weird guy she met in Sexaholics Anonymous. Good thing the family has Fiona, the eldest daughter who dutifully keeps them all together, even as she tries to figure out where and how she fits in to her own life. It is never a dull moment for the crazy, dysfunctional Gallagher clan.

it's nearly impossible to tell from one episode to the next whether Shameless is building up to something or the writers are just doing playful riffs on the Gallagher world that are intended to stand alone.

Shameless definitely isn't your conventional comedy. In fact, almost nothing about this series is conventional. That's part of the appeal.

The Gallagher kids, especially the older ones, have enough heart to keep me invested and I was glad to have them back.
