There were no wire hangers in last night's Scream Queens, but the mother of all horror-movie characters still got the ultimate homage in the appropriately titled episode, "Mommie Dearest."

Since abandoning the chill and thrills for straight up LOLz, Scream Queens has his its stride and won my heart as a dark comedy that's one part Heathers and two parts American Horror Story: Coven, with a dash of ... campiness.

Even Jamie Lee Curtis's recreation of her mother Janet Leigh's famous scene in Psycho didn't have the weight it might have had in earlier episodes, thought it was a fantastic moment for horror fans.

In fact, though it certainly wasn't as exciting as Scream Queens Season 1 Episode 7, this was a very strong episode, particularly at the just-beyond mid-season mark where we are now.

Strangely, the smaller the cast gets, the less the handful of characters still around actually interact with each other. That leaves the episodes feeling oddly sparse, despite everything that happens within them.
