Following the struggles of Marshal Givens, a young courageous and honest man, who seeks justice and seems to be from elite, but when he has to return to his hometown to keep security there, it seems that he is a man passes through many challenges throughout his childhood in a lost family and outlaw father. Upon his arrival in his town, he takes the mission of an old friend that fire a church.

The writers quickly showed their intent: creating individual storylines based around Givens and his "I can draw and fire quicker than you" mentality. It's a premise some will latch on to and others will quickly abandon.

It is lush with the beauty and weirdness of the folkloric backwoods, gritty with the coal dust of the miserable mines - a sublime pulp terrain.

A drama that curbs its enthusiasm for aggressively anti-hero males and instead gives viewers an easier to swallow blend of Southern Comfort and lemonade. It's a pleasure to drink to that.

Justified defies easy categorization or even explanation of its oddball appeal - a characteristic it shares, not coincidentally, with the crime fiction of Elmore Leonard, from which it is drawn.

Elmore Leonard, one of the show's executive producers and the author of the books in which the character of Raylan first appeared, is a master at mixing violent drama an incongruous humor.
