It's a hot 'n' heavy time for period dramas. Comedy Central's latest, a well-timed period parody, mixes corsets and classism with some old-fashioned sex and silliness.
July 02, 2015
It's very funny and very odd, with production values reminiscent of Drunk History, and the same feeling of "Oh boy, they seem like they're having a really good time" that that series engenders.
June 24, 2015
Gleefully absurd, Comedy Central's scripted comedy Another Period sends up period dramas (think: Downton Abbey) with humor reminiscent of Reno 911! or Monty Python.
June 22, 2015
There are amusing moments, but the conceit ultimately seems better suited to a Saturday Night Live sketch than another series. Period.
June 23, 2015
Not only is [the] point uninteresting, but the jokes fall flat.
August 25, 2015
The dangling setup is both confrontationally mean-spirited and largely unresolved, in favor of some low-grade finger-up-the-butt jokes.
June 23, 2015
That they're mostly mean and stupid, though, doesn't make for the highest quality comedy, though and a pilot involving Helen Keller devolves into a brawl. I imagine every episode will follow suit into similar shambles.
June 26, 2015
Another Period is as scintillating as it is irreverent in its blistering satire of both period dramas and reality shows.
June 24, 2015
Another Period also skewers gender politics (and classism and the cult of celebrity), but the jokes are not particularly charged, aiming for -- and granted, usually reaching -- bawdiness, not brilliance.
June 25, 2015
This is nowhere near Comedy Central's worst comedy, but it has yet to reach the high comedic standard that has been established for it.
