SCHEDULE
Sun Records - Season 1
The series peels back the curtain on icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis to tell an odd musical backstory, steeped as much in fiction as in history. The show is set in Memphis, home to both Sun Records and Sun Studio, 'during the tumultuous early days of the civil rights movement.'

Thankfully, there's nothing stagy-looking about the production itself; Sun doesn't skimp on period detail and dusty, warm-toned atmosphere.
February 21, 2017
With so many stories to tell, Sun Records loses focus.
February 23, 2017
When it comes to Sun Records, the hook is there, but it can't sustain the beat.
February 23, 2017
It's more a sampler of Early Scenes from Great Lives than a deep or driven narrative. That is also its strength, in a way - the more casual the material, the more naturally it plays. The more serious things get, the more the writing resorts to cliché.

Sun Records is just too damn much fun to watch to get hung up in the details. The stories are magnetic, and so are the performances.
February 21, 2017
Sun Records, the show, doesn't quite tap into the raw power of rock and roll - or blues, or rockabilly, or R&B.
February 23, 2017
While the marital infidelity subplot seems unnecessary, it seems like the series has a lot going for it.
March 01, 2017
This period drama is more entertaining than authentic.
February 22, 2017
More soap opera than documentary, but there's still a whole lotta shakin' goin' on in this tale of the birth of rock and roll.
February 23, 2017
Repetitious and clumsy as it lurches from one disparate subplot to another, Sun Records is such a slow burn it's kind of a fizzle.
