We got an oblique reflection of Brexit Britain, even if nobody actually said the detested B-word.

You could watch this and Home side by side and come away more deeply informed about our era's besetting sins and sorrows than any news site could manage. Art still has its uses - and popular art at that.

Don't Forget the Driver is an exquisitely made comedy drama -- more drama than comedy in these early stages, and bleak as hell.

Technically it's a story about refugees and Brexit, but it is clever enough not to push the point. It isn't funny, more whimsical and light-hearted.

The bleak worldview and melancholic mood made it uncomfortable to watch at times, more akin to a low-key drama than a comedy. Don't Forget the Driver, sure - but don't forget the jokes either.

It exists within a familiar format -- the six-part comedy. You could argue about the comedy bit, because the laughs are muted, if they are laughs at all. The prevailing moods of this comedy drama are bewilderment and unease.

It is certainly slow-paced, and there is nothing wrong with that; indeed it is in this respect reminiscent of the excellent Detectorists, in which Jones also starred.
