It's a pretty decent act, and Heaton presents it with the same practiced, self-effacing charm. But the show around her isn't nearly as funny.September 25, 2019
Even as the show's first half-hour is hit-or-miss, Heaton, at least, justifies her own new act.September 26, 2019
[Patricia Heaton] shines among a bunch of promising comic actors.September 26, 2019
The joke-telling isn't particularly sharp - a lot of punchlines revolve around slapstick mischief and the rookies' fear of killing their patients - but Heaton's veteran comic timing and Jalees' sardonic delivery keep the energy afloatSeptember 03, 2019
Heaton nails the role because she's had so much practice at this, but "Carol's Second Act" does her - and the trope - one better, by ever-so-slightly inverting our Heaton expectations.September 25, 2019
Comes down a little too hard on the ageism, plus illness is a difficult backdrop for comedy. Still the likability of Patricia Heaton shines through and should make this another long running sitcom for her.September 26, 2019
[Patricia Heaton] has earned enough goodwill to carry her fans past the rougher patches in a genial but otherwise ordinary workplace comedy.September 27, 2019
Carol's Second Act could use more punchlines and less impassioned wisdom.September 25, 2019
Literally nothing jells in this ham-handed first half-hour, and it may already be too late for full-blown emergency surgery. Still, Carol's Second Act could well get a decent tune-in due to [Patricia] Heaton's mere presence.September 27, 2019
Patricia Heaton's one of the few stars that can make a show better by sheer force of will.
