I voted a 5/5 (9/10 in it's genre) here. I remember seeing this film for the first time in 2003 and loving (obvs hating, but enjoying the horror that is the bad guy characters) the generation of inbred, disgusting characters, the West Virginia scenery along with the acting and over the top story line. 'Wrong Turn' is, seriously, one of my favourite - not only modern day, but - slasher horror films. I just rewatched it again, probably for the 20th time since it was released, and it's still holding it's own, almost 20 years later. If you like teen-slasher-gore-jump scares (and who doesn't?), this flick stands the test of time amazingly well. Also, don't knock the sequels 3-6 (they are equally good quality produced and, even though the first film is the best, as insanely gory with a twist of (very) dark comedy and a mix of beautiful people. If you enjoy this, also take a look at the remakes of House of Wax, Texts Chainsaw Massacre and Hills have Eyes, as well as the fantastic House of 1000 Corpses, Devil's Rejects and Hostel. From there you can travel through the mountain of independent films in the same genre. Believe me, there are some goodies out there!

It gives what it promises: violence, creeps, and solid performances from the great cast...

A cut above the recent lot of slasher films...it does not feel as if it has to cater to audiences who want every plot point spoon fed to them.

This horror flick about young campers stalked and slaughtered by gruesome backwoods barbarians is a fairly decent crossbreeding of Friday the 13th and Deliverance.

It's gruesome and nasty and a heck of a lot of fun for people who get a kick out of Fangoria.

This self-styled throwback to the down-and-dirty horror films of the 1970s and '80s never delivers what it definitely promises.

While this movie doesn't have the warped sensibilities of 1977's similarly plotted The Hills Have Eyes, it has decent performances and genuine suspense.

A blood-simple backwoods spatterfest that makes shameless use of the same old antirural moonshine Hollywood's been bootlegging for decades.
