The movie depicts the relationship between two medical pioneers, one celebrated, one overlooked: the black cardiac pioneer Vivien Thomas and his complex and volatile partnership with white surgeon Alfred Blalock, the world famous 'Blue Baby doctor' who pioneered modern heart surgery.
