Taking the chance of the disagreement between a mob boss, Promo Sparaza, and his villain assistant, Aces, a weird magician who is well known with his betrayal, as he witnesses against his boss, the thing that makes his rage and leads him to help the police, the FBI agents use this disagreement, in order to know information about him, as they make a contract with Promo.

Did Carnahan think these sickening scenes would give Smokin' Aces a moral complexity that's generally absent from this genre? I think they make the picture seem even more morally bankrupt.

Violence is spread throughout the film, and some of it is entertaining, I have to admit. But the climax at Buddy's Tahoe penthouse is Tarantino on speed.
