Upon meeting a young girl who is so sympathetic with him and treats him well, Pip, a young courageous and kind orphan guy lives in the countryside and struggles against having a miserable life he has, finds himself mysteriously involved in a game, as he takes the place of a gentleman, the thing that brings terrible for him and challenges him.

While Mike Newell's adaptation of "Great Expectations" isn't a terrible one by any means, there just isn't enough here to make it worth the time of sitting through a story that's already been done many times over.
